StarterKits.org - 9/1/2008 Shutdown Date
8/21/2008
It's with a heavy head that I announce that on 9/1/08 I will be taking StarterKits.org offline and have no intention of bringing it back. The ideas behind the site were good and I stand behind them, but it's an opportunity that was a little late. Time, energy and a number of other factors were involved in the decision but the result is that the site will be shutdown.

iTracker Kit Moved to CodePlex
7/17/2008
After some deep contemplation I've decided to beging the rolldown of www.StarterKits.org. While I still believe in the concept(s) it's something that doesn't really have the community backing I had hoped for.
With this announcement please note that as of today (July 17th, 2008) I have moved the iTracker starter kit over to CodePlex. You can now download it, contribute, leave feedback, etc at it's new home @ http://www.CodePlex.com/iTracker/
Thank you all for the support along the way. At some point in the future I will be taking down the kits from this site and eventualy the entire site, but in the meantime I'll leave things "as is" to transition it over.

iTracker 2008 released
4/27/2008
I know I've been meaning to get at it for a while but I've finally taken the time to push it to the site. This is bascially the same 3-tier app as the original iTracker (Inventory Tracker) app but I've converted it for use with VS 2008. ~Enjoy.

iTracker Demo - Back
4/1/2008
Sorry it took so long but the iTracker demo is back up and running. The hosting provider no longer allows the usage of SQLExpress (which is what the demo was running on, as does the actual site) so I've moved it over to a full SQL backend. This should speed things up as well. The MediaLibrary demo site is still down, working through some kinks with the setup. I may just leave it as a download-only thing, we'll see.

We are shifting the backends for the demo sites around a little. If you experience a problem trying to access them please try again later. We hope to have it all worked out as soon as possible.
~Thanks

More Updates - New Framework
12/7/2007
I know we just had an update but I've tweaked in a few more items.
- .Net Framework 3.5, while in reality I'm not utilizing anything fun from the new framework, yet, I wanted to do the conversion while I was doing the latest updates. This should position us for the future.
- Error Logging: There really wasn't much in the site before, but now there is. This should let us be a little more proactive in fixing anthing that may come up.
- Private Messages: Users are now able to send eachother simple messages. It's nothing overly complex but it can be handy.
- Reviews Menu: Hey, look up at the top.. there's a menu item for the Reviews section now...figured it would help.
If you have any issues just drop us a line and, as always, let us know if there is anything more you want added. ~ Enjoy

Site Updates - Hope you like
12/4/2007
Well, it's been a little while so I figure it must be time for another site update. This one is pretty much all new stuff (thankfully) since there really weren't too many defects reported. Anyway, here is the list.
- New logo (the other one had issues). It's still not exactly what I'm looking for but it's better then what was here.
- Reviews. I've added a section for reviews. These could be books, sites, applications, you name it. The idea is that people can report on things that interest them (good or bad) and share with the community.
- User ability to change your password. Don't know why I didn't have this to start with, but it's here now.
- Ability to Ban users. Admins can not put in place a ban if a user is acting outside the expected behavior. These are typically temporary, at the discretion of the admins.
- Bug Fix: News Details. The text wasn't wrapping properly. It should be ok now.
- Bug Fix: Downloading. There was an issue with the files not feeding properly. This should be taken care of now.
As always, I'll mention that this site is what you make of it. Feel free to submit your ideas/suggestions though either the feedback form or into the forums. We'll do what we can to implement the ideas, or tell you why they won't be.
~ Enjoy

Site Updates
11/8/2007
The correction for the signup issue has been put in place. Sorry for the delay but I was off on a well needed vacation for a bit. At this point there aren't any major bogs reported (woohoo) so we wil be back at enhancements for the site. So, this means if there are things you would like to see added/changed/etc please feel free to send them along. As of now, here is a partial list of what's to come (defect fixes and enhancements).
- Password Recovery Page. - Newsletters. - Private messaging. - Kit voting.
If you want anything else on the list just drop us some feedback from the feedback page or in the site forum.

User Signup Issues
10/23/2007
It's come to my attention that the email verification process was failing to send out the email when you registered for a new account. I'm working correcting the issue. For those of you with accounts in "pending" status, they have been activated and you should be able to use them. I'm sorry for any troubles.
Thanks, Curt

Site Updates
9/19/2007
Looks like this week is a small list of updates, in fact the only one that would be visible to the users of the site was a small bug in the registration system. It's looking like the next release, at least at this point, wont have any critical fixes, just minor tweaks and enhancement requests. That means that if there are things you would like added now would be a perfect time to put in the request.

Site Updated
9/13/2007
The site, as you've noticed, is undergoing a number of updates lately. I'm happy to say that over 90% are enhancements and not defect fixes. We did push another new version tonight. This release accomodated mostly backend issues that I wont bother you with but for what you see there were a couple changes: - Added an RSS Feed on each Forum Topic. This will let you track anything on a new topic you may post. - Did some minor performance tweaks, so things run faster for you.
There are still a few things coming but for now I hope you enjoy what's here. If you have any suggestions please drop me a line. The feedback form is always at your disposal if you wish to stay anonymous, but you can also use the forums when you log in.

Site Updates
9/11/2007
We finally managed to get the release up and out. There are a few minor tweaks that will be getting adjusted over the next couple days but nothing major (I hope). If you have any issues/problems/etc, just send us some feedback and we'll get on it as fast as we can. Anyway, here is a list of the changes that were made (most of them):
- Moved to a full Microsoft SQL 2005 Server for a backend, the site was on a SqlExpress system. - Added the ability to upload the Kit source code instead of just linking to it. - Added better Kit editing. - Added a new/better forum system. It should work a lot better for you now. - Added a new logo, the old one was choppy. I'm still looking for a professional one. If you are interested in swapping for ad space, or you just want to contribute, send me a line. - Changed the advertisements to a rotation system. - Added RSS Links for News - Added RSS Links for New Kits. - Fixed a bug in the Search results.
~ Enjoy, I hope you like it.

Upcoming Upgrades
9/9/2007
Over the next few days we will be doing some upgrades to the site. The site was originally released with a SQLExpress database (yes, that's right) but due to load we're pushing it up to a full service database. At the same time there will be a number of enhancements as well. We'll post all the important information as soon as the upgrades are complete. In the meantime you may notice some intermittant outages (sorry in advance).
~Thanks.

Unscheduled Site Update
8/23/2007
Well, the release we had yesterday had a couple minor (ok, not so minor) flaws in it. To make a long story short we are reviewing our release process (oops). Anyway, I think you will find the update beneficial to all. The issues with FireFox should be resolved and the site should be accessible to all.
In the future we will be trying to coordinate the release to be on off-days/times on a routine schedule to reduce the impact.
~Thanks and Enjoy.

Site Updated
8/22/2007
We've updated the site due to some issues with browser compatibility. While I'm not saying we've got everything 100% perfect we should have most of the major issues resolved. If you come across any other issues please feel free to drop us a line. Even if you just have some suggestions on other features you would like to see we are always more then happy to listen.
~Thanks and enjoy

StarterKits.org Goes Live!!
8/7/2007
Today is the day that the site got launched. It was only about a month ago that the project was started, so some things may still be a little rough, but be patient and we'll work as quickly as we can to get things working.
The whole concept of www.StarterKits.org is actually pretty simple...StarterKits. The internet if full of all kinds of kits, stored in all kinds of places and often it's difficult to find what you are after. By creating a free, single source for these types of things we're hoping your search will be a little easier. If you write your own kits, feel free to post the information here and we'll get you all setup.
~Enjoy...
